H's Wisdom

Recently, I have been amazed at how wise H is for 6 (almost 7). Maybe it is all normal. He is growing up, after all. But, I think he possesses a spiritual understanding that is advanced for his age. Here is an example ...

I overheard this conversation between H & P in the backseat:

P: Do bad guys hate Jesus and God? ("Jesus and God" are an ever-present part of P's thoughts.)
Me: Some might but most don't know Him or possibly do know Him and make bad choices anyway.
P: I'm going to beat up all the bad guys that hate Jesus and God until they die.
H: You shouldn't beat them up. You should show them love and then TELL them about Jesus and God. If you beat them up and they die, they won't get a chance to love Jesus and God and go to heaven.

(I do hope that all of this beating up and dying talk is "normal". I have to get T's perspective on such things because I've never been a boy.)

Dear Price,

It is with great pleasure that I present the Knight Award to you! You have sprinkled God's seeds of love to me and others with your gentle words and acts of kindness! I am unable to count all the times you have offered to help me or your classmates. And, any time I have asked you for help, you were always ready to do so with such a cheerful attitude!

Your bright smile and cute laughter adds such sunshine to our classroom! You are "price-less"! Always guard your heart and stay faithful to Jesus Christ! He desperately needs Godly men who are available to spread His love and hope to others! Be that man, Price! Run the race and finish strong!

Dear Hamilton,
It brings me great pleasure to announce that the Knight Award this semester goes to you! I have watched you this semester, and I am pleased with your behavior and character. You truly have been a kind and helpful student - not only to me, but to your classmates as well. If ever there is an extra job to do in our class, you always step up and want to help. All I have to say is, "Who would like to help me?". Your hand automatically goes up. Sometimes I don't even have to ask for help and you are right there, Johnny on the spot!

I also want to thank you for the tender way you help your friends. This is on a daily basis. If you see that your neighbors cannot find something, or the floor by a student's desk is a mess, you just pitch right in to help without even being asked. This kind of character trait not only pleases me, but it is very God-pleasing. I am proud of you and I know Jesus is proud of you, too.

The Bible says, "Be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another.". This verse is a verse that describes your life, and I hope it always will.

If you continue to put Jesus and others before yourself, I know you will have great success in life. God will reward you for your willingness to please Him and help others. Thank you for being such a sweet, kind, and gentle boy. I love you very much.

The above photos are of Hamilton's end of season coach pitch party where, again, the much anticipated trophies are handed out. This was Hamilton's first season of baseball. He is our resident soccer star and because we have been unwilling to violate our "one sport rule" up to this point, he was new to baseball. However, he picked it up like he had played it all along. The coach described him as a natural ... fast, eager to play, and a terrific hitter. He is such a fierce competitor and super coordinated. These two things add up to a promising athlete ... no matter what the sport. I can brag b/c he gets none of this from me.

Hamilton has been very afraid of this waterside, and I'll take responsibility for that. In one of my less than stellar moments as a mother, I pushed him down this slide two years ago. I really thought that if he went down once (like it or not), he'd realize how much fun it is and get over it. That's not how it went. Two years later, all is forgiven but not forgotten. Friday, he finally made up his mind and did it. And, this time I was at the bottom with the camera fighting back tears of pride as my boy climbed his Everest.
